Information Regarding Fees and Estimated Program Costs

Fees and other program costs are kept at a reasonable level because CISV is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization. Incidentals are for miscellaneous items, and are NOT included in the program cost listed below. These cost estimates include all known major expenses associated with the program. Scholarship (financial assistance) may be available based on need.

This reflects the projected fees. These are close estimates.

  1. Fees are payable in full at the time of selection into the program.

    Program Cost (Flights included!)
    $3,250
    CISV DC Family Membership
    $60
    Total $3,310

  2. Incidentals are costs for miscellaneous items for which you will be responsible in preparation for the delegations travel. These costs are not included in the total estimate above.

    • Physical Examination - A required CISV form will be provided for a medical examination to be performed by a physician.

    • Spending Money - The amount of spending money sent with the child is determined by each delegation. The Chapter generally recommends that no more than $200 be sent. There will be a camp store selling stamps, cards and snacks as well as T-shirts. Usually a few sightseeing excursions and a shopping trip are planned for the Step Upers.

    • Adequate Camp Clothing - Appropriate clothing will be suggested in pre-camp correspondence from each Step Up. New, expensive clothing is not recommended, as the children tend to trade clothing items with their new friends from other countries. Step Upers spend most of their time in the camp participating in games, sports and craft activities.

    • Gifts
Host families: As part of the Step Up experience, the children will have one home stay with local families upon arrival. A $5 to $10 gift such as a book about the USA or DC area is a nice gift. The host families may have a small gift for your child also.
Staff Gifts: It is customary to bring a small gift for your staff members as a delegation - this can be candy (like Jelly Belly's), or something indicative of the USA or DC.
Trading items: Small items to trade with other youth are usually taken. CISV shirts with the CISV USA or CISV DC logo (available for purchase online) are hot trading items, along with key chains, coins, stamps, etc.

    • Passports and Visas - Those traveling to Step Ups in other countries will be required to have a passport. Sometimes a visa is also required. Apply for a passport as soon as possible, as they can take up to 6 months to process!
