The Village Junior Counselor (JC)

Children's International Summer Villages
Information Regarding Fees and Estimated Program Costs

Fees and other program costs are kept at a reasonable level because CISV is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization. Incidentals are for miscellaneous items, and are NOT included in the program cost listed below. These cost estimates include all known major expenses associated with the program. Scholarship (financial assistance) may be available based on need.

This reflects the projected fees. These are close estimates.

  1. Fees are payable in full at the time of selection into the program.

    Program Cost
    $1,750
    CISV DC Family Membership
    $65
    Total $1,810
Note: Additionally, you will need to purchase your own flight ticket. Costs seen above are program costs only!

  2. Incidentals are costs for miscellaneous items for which you will be responsible in preparation for the delegations travel. These costs are not included in the total estimate.

    • Health Form - A required CISV form will be provided and must be signed by a physician.

    • National Costume - You will select and prepare an appropriate national costume. In the past, our USA national costume has involved themes such as surfing, square dancing, or baseball, as just a few examples. There will be a National Night at the Village for you to represent the United States, at which time you may share skits, songs and/or dances that you have prepared prior to departure.

    • Spending Money - The amount of spending money you carry is based on good judgment. The Chapter generally recommends no more than $250. There will be a camp store selling stamps, cards and snacks as well as T-shirts. Usually a few sightseeing excursions and a shopping trip are planned for the Villagers. Junior Counselors typically have a day off together, and participate in the leader's weekend-off as well.

    • Adequate Camp Clothing - Appropriate clothing will be suggested in pre-camp correspondence from each Village. New, expensive clothing is not recommended, as everyone tends to trade clothing items with their new friends from other countries. Villagers and Junior Counselors spend most of their time in the Village participating in games, sports and craft activities.

    • Gifts - It is customary to bring a small gift for your staff members - this can be candy (like Jelly Belly's), or something indicative of the USA or DC.

    • Trading Items- Small items to trade with other youth are usually taken. CISV shirts with the CISV USA or CISV DC logo (available for purchase online) are hot trading items, along with key chains, coins, stamps, etc.
    • Passports and Visas - Those traveling to Summer Camps in other countries will be required to have a passport. Sometimes a visa is also required. Apply for a passport as soon as possible, as they can take up to 6 months to process!
